Equality vs equity

As I have shared earlier this month, July is home to Disability Pride and one of the reasons we need awareness is due to the lack of equity within our ablest society.

What’s the difference?

Today I want to demystify the differences between equality and equity – although they sound similar the implementation of one versus the other can lead to dramatically different outcomes for marginalized people.

What is equality?

“Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities.

What is equity?

“Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.”

What’s the difference?

All information from this post is sourced from George Washington University online Master of Public Health. I wanted to make some infographics on the topic to help make this information more accessible and shareable to others.

Thanks for taking the time to read this mini blog post aka little-read! Did you know the difference?

Lots of love xx
